Sunday Social

I'm linking up again for Sunday Social!
Sunday Social

This week it's all about childhood!

1. What do you miss most about being a kid?
Recess, coloring, SWINGS, naps, sleep overs every weekend!

2. Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it?
Almost everyone called me something different growing up. My parents called me Baby Dedis. My paternal grandmother called me Dreamboat. My maternal grandfather called me Frank. My friends called me Frannie (and still do).

3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?
SWING. and my elementary school had this dome thing that we all climbed all over. And in first grade I played Power Rangers with some kids. I was pretty cool, obviously (and by that I mean not at all haha).

4. What did you want to be when you grew up?
An actress. Or a gymnast circa the '96 Olympics.

5. What was your favorite toy?
I was SO a Barbie girl. I loved Barbie. I had two My-Size Barbies. I loved the ballerina Barbies that had on pointe shoes and bendable limbs. AND I had a ballroom dance Barbie. She went on this remote control stand and you could put Ken on it too (he usually didn't stay too long).

6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?
My parents tell me I was (and still am) pretty entertaining, so they thought most things I did were funny. I remember one time scaring my mom because I got in the dog house with our beagle, Radar, and she couldn't find me. I was really mad when I had to take a bath after she found me.

Florence Four

I'm seeing Florence + the Machine Sunday night in Dallas and I'm SO excited. We're going early (because the State Fair starts Friday) and possibly hanging out at the fair for a little bit before the concert. We have to pay for fair parking anyway, so we might as well, right? I've never been to the State Fair, so I'm pretty excited about that, too!

Anyway, in honor of being FOUR days away, I thought I'd share my favorite Florence songs!

Do you have a favorite Florence + the Machine song? What are your plans this weekend?

Sunday Social

Linking up for the first time for Sunday Social while watching the Emmy's!

1. What is something you have wanted to do but are afraid of?
Start an Etsy shop. I love being creative and making things for my friends and would love to make a little money on the side being crafty, but I'm so afraid people won't like what I put out there and want to pay for it. I feel like anything I'd make someone else could make for themselves. I also don't really have a good space for it here lving with my mom, so...

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I'd like to have been working at a job for a significant amount of time, living in Fort Worth, going to all the TCU home games, have had my Masters for 2 years (grad school here I come, right?), hopefully I'll have an awesome significant other (here's hoping I meet an awesome boy soon haha), and still loving on my sweet corgi boy!

3. What are you looking forward to before the end of 2012?
Having at least one grad school acceptance letter? But really, I hope somewhere accepts me! Staying at my part time job with those crazy people I work with. The END of election season (I am so over all the political tweets and statuses on Twitter and Facebook!).

4. What are your hopes for your blog?
To gain loyal followers (and commenters) and get in a better groove of blogging.

5. Do you always see yourself living in your current town/city?
NO. I've come to appreciate Tyler a TON more since I left for Fort Worth six years ago, and even the past two years, but damn. I need out. I'm hoping grad school takes me somewhere fun for a few years and then I'm able to move back to the Fort permanently.

6. What is your morning routine?
Most mornings I wake up around 8:45 and take Nappy out to do his business. Then while I'm eating, he eats. Then he goes in the backyard for a little bit and I watch Live with Kelly and Michael. Until last week, I'd do some GRE studying, but now I'm doing a lot of Grad School research and whatnot. And straightening my hair, if I'm going to do it, I like to do that in the morning.

BAH! Life Update...

BAH! Is how I currently feel.

I took the GRE this morning. I think it went fairly well. I'm still waiting on the writing score and I've decided if that's a decent enough score, I won't take it again. I sent my scores to my top two schools for Ad/PR and the closest grad school (literally, it's a less than 5 minute drive from my mom's house) if I do just straight up communications. I guess I've unofficially started the application process!

My poor step-sister has mono. She's been in and out of the hospital for dehydration and high fevers and other crap that comes along with being SUPER sick. I think her two surgeries over the summer killed her immune system and at some point she's been around mono and it just attacked. It's awful. My step-mom took her out of the hospital yesterday after many frustrating encounters and she's at home resting, but is still feeling pretty poopy, so I'd appreciate (and I know she would, too) some good vibes and positivity sent her way!

And now to my little nugget of a dog. He's been licking his front right paw off and on since late April. I went to the vet FOUR times for it between April and June. For TWO whole months he left it alone. Then we went back in mid-August when it flared back up. Last Sunday he licked it until it bled, a first. My mom and I decided a second opinion was in order, so last Monday we visited a new vet. Loved her. Super sweet and really personable (not something I was getting from one of the vets at the old office). Told me what kind of food he should really be on (aka not puppy food since he's a year and a half old). Actually told me a diagnosis (lick granuloma - look it up, it's super gross. Nappy's isn't that bad, but still). Talked to me about it all. Told me to get him an inflatable collar (not a cone of shame). Things were great. Until he made it bleed Saturday night (when I actually got the inflatable collar). And again tonight (after I was nice and took it off of him for 15 minutes before bed time).

Sept 15, 2012 - avoiding eye contact with me after I bought an inflatable collar for making his paw bleed #corgi #sad

I'm just frustrated beyond belief with this whole situation. I know it's awful for him because he can't tell me what's up. And I of all people (er... mammals?) know how awful it is to itch constantly since mosquitos seek me out anytime I'm outside. I just don't know what to do. I've researched a little and found a DIY for dog sock suspenders. Sounds crazy, but I'm going to make them. It's all I can figure to do for now along with the inflatable collar.

If you fur mamas out there have any suggestions I'd be eternally grateful!

Miracle Worker

DISCLAIMER: I'm not getting paid for this. The following post is just my thought on an amazing product.

A few weeks ago, my mom got a free sample of this stuff called Tricalm. She saw that it was good for bug bites and I don't know if I've mentioned it (much) here, but mosquitos across the country flock to me any time I step outside during the warm(er) months. I think ALL of the mosquitos in the East Texas area breed in our back yard so it's especially true when I want to go outside to play with Nappy. At any given time I have at least 3 itchy bug bites that may be a week old (and normal people's apparently don't itch after the first day).

Anyway, it came in the mail and sat in our bathroom unopened for about a week. Finally I decided to try it after much poking and prodding from my mom. Y'all. This stuff works MIRACLES. I apply it pretty generously with a cotton ball (it's kind of stinky and I don't like having stuff on my fingers - I'm weird, I know) and I don't itch for HOURS. It says it can last anywhere from 4-12 hours and I believe it.

It says it's good for itching, stinging, or burning and it's true. I put it on after I shaved my legs when the air still kind of stings, you know? And it worked. Stopped stinging and no itching. It was AWESOME. Unfortunately, it's SO NEW that it's not in stores yet. They just opened their store on their website on THURSDAY. They're based in California and I got my full-sized tube TODAY. I thought it'd be at least 2 more days since it was coming to TX from CA, but SURPRISE. It was in my mail box this morning.

So, go "like" them on Facebook. Order your free sample or just a real size (it'll get there faster - I ordered another sample last week and it's still not here). TRICALM is a miracle worker. I'm obsessed. I've already ordered more for when this tube is gone.

Have you ever found a miracle working product? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Photo 365 (+1): August 2012

And again, it's almost a week into September and I forgot to recap my August!

I supported Chick-fil-A because I thought the whole situation was dumb. I'm not trying to get all political and start a fight or anything (I hate politics. a lot), but since when did we give up our first amendment rights?
Aug 1, 2012 - feeling very patriotic supporting an American company, the first amendment, and #teamUSA. F yeah, 'Murikah!

I watched Aly Raisman win bronze and gold and decided I want to be her in my next life. She's SO talented and beautiful, too! Some girls get all the luck!
Aug 7, 2012 - I want to be Aly Raisman in my next life!

Took seester to get her first ever pedicure before her foot surgery so she'd have pretty toes for the Dr.
Aug 8, 2012 - took seester to get her first ever pedi before her surgery next week :)

I went to Rick's with my ladies and saw a band there that my parents used to go see back in the day (amazeballs band, btw).
Aug 17, 2012 - rick's with mah ladies

I bought tickets to the SYTYCD tour stop in Grand Prairie. Can't wait to see Cyrus and Eliana and a handful of my other favorites!
Aug 22, 2012 - bought my tix to the #sytycd tour today! can't wait!

Nappy's girlfriend trapped Nappy and me in the backyard last week. I got no less than 15 bug bites in about 10 minutes. I still don't have West Nile yet though!
Aug 28, 2012 - puppy love, Nappy's GF from down the street came for a visit #corgi

We had our work baby shower for Katie because she's due in FOUR WEEKS! Yay! I'm so excited to meet her sweet baby girl.
