Two Truths and a Lie: Revelation

The other day, I linked up with Sarah at Venus Trapped in Mars for a Super Bowl themed post! I told two truths and a lie: football edition and I'm here to reveal my truths and lie.

Here's a refresher...

1. In college, I had a class with Andy Dalton.
2. One of my elementary school teachers was the sister-in-law of Joe Montana.
3. Johnny Manziel is my cousin.

Now for the big reveal! *drumroll, please*

1. TRUE! I did have class with Andy Dalton. I was in sophomore comp with Andy Dalton in Spring 2008 after his first starting football season. Little did I know back then that he'd help TCU get to two BCS bowls back-to-back and be instrumental in the stadium renovations and TCU to the Big XII, even if he was no longer at TCU when those two things happened.

2. TRUE! My third-grade teacher was Joe Montana's sister-in-law. How crazy is that? She loved Elvis and we played Elvis-opoly on a regular basis.

3. FALSE. Johnny Manziel is not my cousin, but we do share a birth place: Tyler, Texas! And for one year, he went to the high school I graduated from. Then his family moved to Kerrville, just down the road from one of my all time favorite place, CAMP!

Now let's go watch some ads! Oh, and I guess football, too. Go Seahawks!

Go Team!

Two posts in one day? Yeah, well, I didn't realize Sarah was going to have such a bomb link up.

Venus Trapped in Mars

I decided it would be fun to play Two Truths and Lie: Football Edition!

How this works: I'm going to present three statements to you that somehow involve football or football players. You're going to guess which statement is a lie and which two are truths. I'll come back on Super Bowl Sunday to let you know which statement was the lie and tell stories about the truths!

Football Players...
1. In college, I had a class with Andy Dalton.
2. One of my elementary school teachers was the sister-in-law of Joe Montana.
3. Johnny Manziel is my cousin.

Now take your guesses!

Also, who are you cheering for this weekend? I think I'm leaning more towards the Seahawks. Their deaf player just seems like a complete bad ass. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch this amazing ad:

See y'all Sunday!

Excitement!

So, it's no secret, where I live is not that exciting of a place. I typically eat out at the same 7 restaurants within a week and a half span (sometimes less, I'm a creature of habit, deal with it). Don't get me wrong, Tyler is vastly improved since I graduated from high school, but after living in the "big city" of Fort Worth, Tyler can still continue to improve, and it is, however slowly.

Next spring something exciting is happening. Blue Man Group is coming. Not to Dallas. To Tyler. They'll be performing less than a mile from my mom's house. My best friend, Kendall, has seen the THREE times. Twice in their home theater in Chicago and once in Dallas. She's obsessed. I've never seen them, but I got really excited over the summer when I saw they were coming. They were originally only scheduled to perform ONE night. I freaked out last week when I realized a whole week had passed since the ticket purchase date. But then, I saw a glorious billboard that told me they had added TWO nights. Today I bought our tickets for it.

I'm pretty frickin' excited.

Now I'm doing research (on YouTube) to watch their awesomeness. I'll have to update you on it after we go.

Have you ever seen Blue Man Group perform?

Hoover Fights Back

So as I'm sure most of you have heard, ABC is canceling two of their soap operas (All My Children and One Life to Live), one of which I happen to be somewhat invested in, thanks unemployment and my mom. Yes, soap operas are somewhat outdated - but how else can I thrive in the drama of others?! Reality TV isn't the same as a good old fashioned scripted drama in the form of day time TV: the soap opera. They're ancient - they were around BEFORE TV, guys. But they have HUGE followings. I personally, really like One Life to Live.

Anyway, Hoover is quite upset about this because their customers are upset. So what are they doing? Pulling their ads from all ABC programming. Can we say AWESOME? If other advertisers do this then this could really make an impact on ABC and they would have to change their minds about the soaps. I'd be much happier with 30 minutes of One Life to Live than none at all.

In addition to pulling their ads from the network, Hoover has set up an e-mail account (mentioned on their facebook page) for the soap lovers to e-mail their feelings and Hoover will make sure ABC receives every single word. It's pretty crazy stuff, but I think it's also pretty awesome.

I guess we'll just have to wait this one out and see if others follow or it blows up in Hoover's face. I hope other advertisers follow in Hoover's footsteps and speak up on behalf of their consumers.

What do you guys think?

If It's Not Broke...

There's an old saying: if it's not broke, DON'T FIX IT. In the past few months there have been a random group of companies changing up their logos. Why? God only knows.

Gap was the first, or the first that I'm aware of, October last year. The former (and still current because of the backlash from the new) logo was/is CLASSIC. A navy box with GAP written in a serif font. Everyone knows when they see a navy box, it's Gap. However, someone who had probably been using photoshop for about a week decided to come up with this and for some strange reason, Gap loved it. Everyone else? Not so much. Not even close.
When Gap leaked their new logo out for the masses, the reaction was astonishing. To Gap. I don't know a single person that liked it, personally. I hate it. The old (and still current, thank God) wasn't broke, so why'd they try to fix it?

A month later, Urban Outfitters declared a new logo. Since I've been to Urban a total of maybe 5 times in my life, I'm not as familiar with the old logo (thus I can't describe it off the top of my head, like Gap), but I believe it was something like this:
To me, like Gap's, this is classic. It's simple, you know the store's name pretty immediately. However, just a short month (almost to the day) after Gap's unsuccessful redesign, Urban came out with this and while it's not nearly as bad as Gap's, it's still not the best. It looks like I made it in Word with the word art function. When I was 14.

Now I know Starbucks has redone their logo, but all they've done is zoomed in on what's in existence and removed the words. Not to mention, I kind of like it. No, you don't actually READ that it's Starbucks, but I think they've been around long enough, most people recognize the little green mermaid.

Today, NBC/Universal announced a logo change. No more peacock. Am I the only one that loved the cute little peacock? He's (or she's) presh and brightly colored which is always fun. But today this beauty (read sarcastically) was released.
Yes, it's more simple than the rainbow peacock, but I'm pretty sure they've used the peacock long enough that everyone says, "Hey, NBC!" when they see it. Maybe they did it to incorporate Universal more in the corporate branding, and from what I hear the peacock isn't disappearing from TV, but still. I just don't understand.

If it's not broke, DON'T FIX IT. What are your guys' thoughts?
