I Know I Say a Lot of Things Are Epic, but...

Seriously, this. is. EPIC. I went to see In Time this afternoon with my friend Jessica and we saw this. I got chills. I'm SO excited.



Last summer they were casting the movies and I never thought December 2011 would get here, but now we're a little less than 2 months until this movie comes out! I didn't think it would measure up to the Swedish versions (which follow the books pretty strictly), but from the trailer I think it might. But, we'll just have to wait to see.

I'm also pretty pumped for the soundtrack to this movie (I loooooove soundtracks), because of the song they used in the teaser trailer a few months ago. Trent Reznor (did the Social Network score) and Karen O (The Yeah Yeah Yeahs) covering Led Zepplin. Sold.


After this movie, I'll be on the countdown for the Hunger Games in March.

Summer Reading

So if you're like me, summer is a great time to read (except that being unemployed, this whole year has been a great time to read). Last year I read the entire Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series at camp and this year I was excited to try to find another series like that to read at camp. I found it. And it's not quite as intense (graphically) as Dragon Tattoo. The Hunger Games.

These books are amazing. I'm a slow reader and it only took me a little under two weeks to read them (keep in mind I was at camp supervising 13 campers as well as supervising 9 archery classes with girls aged 8 -17 so I couldn't be reading constantly). I couldn't put them down. Really excellent books. And since it is Independence Day I thought I'd be uber grateful for the way our government is currently set up because as Suzanne Collins' series goes, if we continue on our path, it may not be like this in a couple hundred years (I'm guessing - they never say what year it is in the books).

I don't mean to get preachy and certainly not political (I hate politics). But really, these books are fantastic and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs a good summer read. Easy to read and very well written. They're technically young adult books, but I'm still trying to process parts of the books and I'm definitely considered an adult now.

Also, the first movie comes out in March. Jennifer Lawrence has been cast as Katniss and Liam Hemsworth cast as her best friend Gale. I'm pretty excited about this. Get to reading!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo... in Swedish?

Yes, I bought and watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in Swedish. Target had it on DVD and I couldn't pass it up. It was buy it now or wait for a month for Anna to get back to Tyler to watch with her and Kendall. But it was staring me in the face at Target and I went for it.

Also, this post may contain spoilers, so if you intend on reading the series but have yet to start, don't read any further!

I watched it last night and wow. Those Swedes know how to write books and make movies based off of books! It's pretty much the book on film in two and a half hours - even the not so good parts, which one of I definitely fast forwarded through (if you've read I'm sure you can guess). The actress who played Lisbeth was not exactly on, for me anyway, but she was pretty close. It makes me anxious for who they're going to cast for the English/American version. And yea, Blomkvist and Berger are supposed to be older than Lisbeth, but in the Swedish version I felt they were a little too old. Their actors were great but just a little too wrinkled. However, this morning it has been announced that Daniel Craig will play Blomkvist in the English/American version and I think this is pretty excellent. I'm almost certain that without thinking about it consciously I imagined someone very much like him while reading the books. My only thing now is that I will consciously think about him while finishing the third book (which I fully plan to do this week).

Onto other characters: Bjurman... SO creepy. It really made me wonder who Hollywood is considering for the character. He was so disgusting and I felt sick when he was on screen.
Harriet... was gorgeous as a young girl. I almost hope they recast the same person since when they flashback to her as a teenager she didn't really speak. She was stunning. When she returns though she's a bit too old. Already grey headed and as I recall she was only a few years older than Blomkvist and shouldn't be totally grey if at all.
Old man Vanger... I thought he was pretty much dead on.
Martin... Again, perfect. He also made me feel sick, especially at the end - that was exactly as I had pictured it.

I promise I'm not like super obsessed or anything, but it is worth mentioning. If you've read the book(s), I high recommend that you see the Swedish movie. Yea, they're speaking Swedish and you're having to read subtitles, but it's not that bad. Since they stick to the book so well, you don't even really need the subtitles, but I had them on anyway. You can watch it in dubbed English but dubbing always throws me off. But seriously, watch it.

Day Off #1

Hello from beautiful Hunt, Texas! I'm on my first day off with three of the other counslors on senior hill. It's so nice to be in contact with the real world again after a week sans real phone service and one time facebooking before the campers came. This blog is going to be kind of random and all over the place, because I'm pretty much just typing as I think.

The campers got to camp Friday and the term has been a blast so far! I'm loving my campers, they're all such sweethearts! The older campers get to go on e a fun night called a cabin campfire and my cabin's (and myy step-sister's cabin's) is coming up on Sunday. I'm really excited to bond with not only my cabin but my step-sister and her cabin (some of my former campers).

Anna is Kendall's best friend at UT Tyler. She's Swedish and awesome. Anyway, she told Kendall, an avid reader and book lover, about the series The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Kendall loved the firrst two books and I'm assuming she's alreaddy finished the third and loved it. I started the first one before camp and I had a hard time getting into it. The prologue and first chapter were boring, but I knew that if I would just get into the book I'd be ok. Well, I'm about two-thirds of the way through and I hate putting it down. I had to go buy the second book, The Girl Who Played with Fire at Hastings in Kerrville before we headed to our day off destination so when I finish the first I can jump right into the second one.

Ok, well, I'm going to end this because my laptop's fan is being ridiculous... AGAIN. I can't wait to get a MacBook Pro next month! I'll try blogging again on a night off soon, if not probably my day off next week!

48 Hours (or less)

Oh thank Heaven for delicious camp food! Or for camp in general really. In 48 SHORT hours, I will be getting ready to make the trek from Angel's Attic (from personal experience this is probably the furthest cabin on the hill from) to Harrison Hall for my first camp meal in TWO YEARS. I'm about 95% packed now, thanks to an intense packing session with my mom this morning/early afternoon. All I have left are a few last minute items that I'll still be needing until I leave.

Thanks to Kathleen, my mouth is watering in anticipation of my arrival and first bite of the most amazing camp food anyone has ever known. Literally. We don't just eat hot dogs and hamburgers every night like most camps. Just take a look (she's got some pictures of what they've already eaten, so jealous)!

Since I'll be at camp sans regular internet connection, posts will be very limited: maybe a post or two on my days off (maybe nights off if there's a better place in Kerrville with wifi and is open 24 hours). Without the modern conveniences of regular internet connection, my iPhone, and television, I'll be starting my summer reading list. First I have The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the two following books of the series. Then I'm not sure. I'm thinking that the first two books of the series will keep me busy enough while I'm at camp, but I am looking for other suggestions since I never have to read for school again and would like to read for fun more. And now I'm off to figure out my second to last dinner at home for a month!
