Conference Realignment Craziness

If you haven't picked up on it by now, I love college football - especially the Frogs. I'm excited that this is our last year at the kids table before joining the big leagues with the Big East. While I'm quite content to be joining the Big East, I can't deny that I am quite interested in what Dan Wentzel has to say in this article about A&M and the SEC. I don't think it will happen, but he does make some good points - specifically the reason the Big 12 doesn't want us (and the Big East did), the DFW TV market. Maybe when the Super Conferences do emerge, TCU will be considered, but for now I doubt this will happen.

But what's even more unlikely to happen is this. Launching tonight at midnight, I'm assuming by their awesome countdown, SMU has made a website for their campaign to join the Big 12. I'm sorry but this is just laughable. Hey ponies, if the Big 12 doesn't want TCU (a much more successful football and baseball school), they sure as hell don't want you. The Big 12 already has a hold on the DFW TV market as so much of the Big 12 schools' alumni base(s) reside there already. Also, if TCU's stadium is small, SMU's is tiny by comparison. So, ponies, if you want to be at one of the grown up tables, you should pursue another BCS conference. I'd be floored if the Big 12 shows any serious consideration of you joining.

And like every other TCU football post in the last two weeks: Kickoff is Friday nigh in Waco against Baylor at 7. The game will also be on ESPN.

Football Rants and Raves

I won't rant too long. In fact, I'll keep it short and sweet.

I hate the BCS. It is the most flawed part of college athletics. And since they support the BCS, I hate ESPN. The analysts they hire are soooo wrong it's ridiculous. This evening, several analysts declared that despite TCU going undefeated for the second season in a row and being ranked third in all of the polls, if Oregon or Auburn were to lose next weekend, TCU would not deserve a chance at the national championship game.

I'm sorry, what? Unless there is some seriously strange season where every team in the FBS loses at least one game, the national championship should be between two unbeaten teams.



With that said, I'll move on to TCU's football future. This weekend experienced a turn of events: Boise State lost to Nevada. According the the "experts," Boise's win of Nevada would have put them at number 3 in the polls, over TCU. But Nevada pulled through for TCU. With this event, TCU is almost certain to venture to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (as predicted by USAToday in the pre-season).

The more I think about it, the more I'm willing to drain my bank account and risk my personal space (to go through security) and watch my frogs at their bowl game (which if Oregon or Auburn loses cold be the national title, unless the ESPN "experts" get their way).

California Dreamin'...

In honor of the first Go Purple Friday of football season (35 days till Kick Off in Cowboys Stadium!), I'd like to share with you readers this wonderful little article from USA Today from July 22. USA Today predicted BCS bowl games for this season. I quite like this prediction, not only because this little horned frog would visit the other city of roses, Pasadena, but because they've picked TCU to win. After last season, I think it's possible, but I won't get my hopes up. I'll let the nation's leading QB, Andy Dalton, do the work while I cheer in the stands or at home. GO FROGS!!!
